So the black rock surf festival has just passed, and to say the conditions were challenging, is an understatement.
The forecast looked like it was to be big and nasty, and it certainly delivered. We turned up to big sets, and a stiff wind, which was set to build throughout the weekend.
During the contest, few people even made it out the back for their heats, and were forced to surf the inside reforms, which were still easily over head high. The force in the waves, and the wind made it to be some of the most difficult conditions I have ever had to compete in.
I was lucky enough to have had time to train on the run up to the event, including a 5 day trip to Ireland, where I scored some big clean waves, so I felt very ready for the event.
In the event I placed 1st in the Open high performance category. And ,in a VERY close final, which felt like one of the worst heats of my life, I placed first in the Open international category.
Thanks to Simon Hammond from Shoreline, for organising a great competition, and bringing the kayak surfing community together for a great social weekend.
See you again next year!
